Drake Choir to give concert at Central, January 4
Make plans to attend the Drake University Chamber Choir’s pre-tour concert on Thursday, January 4 at 7:30 p.m. at Central.
Everyone is invited to attend this concert by one of four choruses at Drake that provide singing opportunities for more than 250 students. The Drake University Chamber Choir ensemble tours throughout the U.S. annually and internationally every four years. They have sung in major venues in Austria, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Wales, Latvia, Estonia, and Finland.
The pre-tour concert repertoire includes the following composers’ works: Ruth Watson Henderson, Tomás Luis de Victoria, Healey Willan, Frank Ferko, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Dan Forrest, R. Murray Schafer, Randall Thompson and John Rutter.
During the choir’s Jan. 5–17, 2018 tour of England, the choir will sing at St. Paul’s Cathedral and St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London, Cambridge University, and the cathedrals of Coventry and Ely.
The Chamber Choir has been selected to perform at several conferences of the American Choral Directors Association and its members have frequently collaborated with the Des Moines Symphony. The Chamber Choir is conducted by Dr. Aimee Beckmann-Collier, director of choral studies and the Ellis and Nelle Levitt Distinguished Professor of Conducting at Drake.
