New Book Study about Race
Up to a challenging study? Waking up White, is a book by Debby Irving about racism, prejudice and the advantages we have enjoyed.
Based on Debby Irving’s book, Waking up White and Finding Myself in the Story of Race, this 6-week study will uncover the difference between racism and prejudice and the advantages “white folks” have enjoyed for several hundred years.
It will be uncomfortable hearing stories of institutional discrimination and experiencing it through interactive group studies after worship. But the outcome is to hopefully reveal how we can learn a new language and become more welcoming as both individuals and as a congregation.
The study will take place both at the 9:00 a.m. education hour and two sessions after worship. It is not necessary to have read the book, but will be helpful for active discussions and exercises. All classes will be led by Christian Education Director
Greg Halterman. To download a schedule of class dates and times, click on the flier.
